Yes, I know this isn’t what I normally write about and no, I am not a chef; however, here is a little trick I use with the boys to make sure they are drinking their water as we hike. Whether it is hot or cold out it is important to stay hydrated. The boys like this trick and it does make them drink water (Although, my oldest likes to bring plain water as well now).
These work great because they keep the water cold and slowly releases flavour into the water. It is not too strong and they do not get all of the puree at once. Simply use a blender to liquify whatever fresh fruit you got. I find melon works great but so do berries and apples. Turn it into a pre-hike experiment and get the kids to try blending different things together to find a flavour they like. Pour the mixture into an ice cube tray and the next morning fill the water bottles and get the kids to drop in the cubes.
That’s it! Give it a try and let me know if you find any epic flavours. My favourites are blackberry/apple and peach/mango 🙂
